Lipitor® Diabetes Lawsuit

What is Lipitor®?
Lipitor® is a drug made and sold by pharmaceutical giant Pfizer to treat high cholesterol. Atorvastatin is the generic version of the drug and is a member of the Statin class of hypolididemics. Taken daily and prescribed in 10 mg to 80 mg tablets, the FDA approved Lipitor in December 1996.
Lipitor® works to prevent the production of low density lipids (LDLs), reducing the userâ€™s risk of developing heart disease. Lipitor prevents an enzyme in the liver from creating LDLs that are a type of cholesterol that block arteries.
Researchers at the University of Massachusetts Medical School have studied data for over 150,000 women from ages 50-70s. The women who used Lipitor or any kind of Statin were 48 percent more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes than those not taking Lipitor or the generic versions.
